Keeping Your Small Business in
Business Seminars
Keeping
your small business in business in today’s environment is no easy
business!
But the Woodstock Downtown Business Association (WDBA) is hoping
that its new seminar series “ Keeping Your Small Business in
Business” will help downtown retailers increase revenue and protect
cash flow.
The series of seminars will bring in a variety of speakers that
can give small downtown businesses practical information for success.
The
seminars are held in the Amcore Bank Community Room, 225
W. Jackson Street, Woodstock, IL. Social and networking begins at
6:00 p.m. with the presentation from 6:15 – 7:30 p.m.

Trade......Marketing Your Business to the Leisure Traveler |
Presenters include
Cort Carlson, Executive Director of the McHenry County Convention and
Visitors Bureau (MCCVB) and Bonnie Heimbach, from the Northern Illinois
Tourism Development Office (NITDO).
According to the Illinois Bureau of Tourism, the economic impact
from travel in McHenry County exceeded $171.6 million in 2005, a growth
of nearly 8% from 2004, generated $5.4 million in local tax receipts,
and accounted for over 1500 jobs. Join
Cort and Bonnie as they share strategies for marketing to the lucrative
tourism trade. |

marketing and her consulting focus is on helping small businesses
develop effective marketing. She has consulted for small retail,
service, and non-profit organizations. As a small business owner
herself for over ten years, Karen understands the needs of the small

Preservation Guest Speaker: Kim
Malay (This session was
originally scheduled to be presented by Len Walker with the topic of
Effective Media Relations. Due to a change in Mr. Walker's
schedule, the session on Effective Media Relations will be
rescheduled in 2008).

Kim
Malay, Historic Preservation Coordinator, of the City of St. Charles,
Illinois, Development
Department, will be sharing the experience of St. Charles and other
small downtowns in reaping economic benefits from efforts in
preservation.
Ms. Malay has worked with the Historic
Preservation Commission of St. Charles for over twelve years.
She administers the City’s Façade Improvement Program,
Historic Preservation Ordinance, sidewalk care and signage program and
assists with the St. Charles Main Street Program.
Previous to her employment with the City
of St. Charles, Ms. Malay was a superintendent for a construction
company and worked for the Dupage County Building Department. |

Greater McHenry County (LGMC) was launched to address the growing need
for Community Leadership in the Greater McHenry County Area. The Goal of
LGMC is to recruit, equip and engage
people in the community who are committed to making a difference
in the Greater McHenry County community.
LGMC focuses on building knowledge
of community issues, i.e. history, trends, challenges, needs
and planning and on leadership skills building.
Skills such as building teamwork and collaboration, effective decision
making, consensus building, understanding the power of diversity and
effective communications become more important to positive outcomes.
